Repairs

Repairs If your repair is an emergency and occurs after 8pm between Monday to Thursday, after 5pm on Friday or at the weekend, please call 01708 756699. Our normal working hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays. We will only carry out emergency repairs outside of these hours.

Reporting a repair

What do we need from you?

  • Please try to give as much detail as you can so that we can repair in one visit

If you can't report a repair, you can get someone else to report it for you as your representative.

What happens next?

The repairs officer will:

  • Take the details of the repair that is needed
  • Tell you if we are responsible for the repair. If we are not, we will suggest other ways you can fix the problem
  • Give you a reference number in case you need to contact us again
  • Arrange an appointment for the works to be completed

What can I expect when the repair is carried out?

When any of our staff call at your home they will be carrying an identification card; please ask to see this and make sure that you are letting a genuine council contractor into your home. If you have any doubts or concerns about them you should not allow them in and should telephone us immediately

Our workers will:

  • Be polite and helpful
  • Treat you and your home with respect and clean up after every repair
  • Make sure we leave your home as clean as we found it
  • Check if there is a vulnerable person alone in the house (someone who is elderly, has medical problems or has a disability) and if there is, make sure they are happy for us to do the work
  • Carry language cards in case you need us to translate information
  • Provide translation and interpretation services if English is not your first language
  • Use dust sheet and covering to protect your carpets, furniture and other belongings
  • Remove all rubbish from your home when we have finished the work; and
  • Ask for a signature to confirm that we have finished the repair

What will happen if I am out when you visit to carry out the repair?

It is important you keep the appointment. If we have not agreed an appointment with you and we call when you are out, we will leave a card telling you how to contact us. You will need to get back to us or we will have to cancel the repair. If we have agreed an appointment and you are out when we call, you must contact us to make another appointment, please let us know so we can arrange a more suitable time

What happens if the contractor does not keep the appointment that was made?
